Panini World Cup 2026 Extra Stickers: what they are and why everyone chases them

If you're filling the World Cup 2026 album, sooner or later you'll hit the word Extra - and hear someone say they've been chasing a "gold Mbappé" for a month. So what exactly are these Extra Stickers, and why is everyone after them?

Short version: Panini Extra Stickers are a special set of rare star-player stickers that aren't part of the regular album. You don't stick them into the 980 slots - they're a separate chase, and on average one turns up in about every 100 packets. Below: how they work, which are the rarest, and how to get them without spending a fortune.

What are Extra Stickers?

Extra Stickers are a set of 20 special stickers, each showing one of the tournament's biggest names - Messi, Mbappé, Haaland, Ronaldo, Lamine Yamal, Bellingham, Modrić, Son and the like. They look different at a glance: an action photo on the front, no number on the back, and a special Extra logo.

The key thing to remember: Extra Stickers are not part of the 980-sticker album. They have no slot in it - you complete the album fully without them. They're a bonus, an extra chase for anyone who enjoys hunting something rare.

Gold, silver, bronze: the rarity tiers

Here's where it gets fun. Each of the 20 players exists in four versions, from more common to rarest:

• Purple - the most common,
• Bronze,
• Silver,
• Gold - the rarest and most wanted.

That's 20 players × 4 colours = 80 variations. A player's gold sticker is the holy grail of this chase - hard to land, so everyone wants it.

If that feels familiar, you're right: the sticker world is quietly copying the card world here. In cards we call it parallels (the same card in another colour or finish, with fewer made) and "hits" (rare, chased cards). Extra Stickers run on the same logic - the fewer there are, the more they're wanted. (If that side interests you, we break it down in Cards or stickers? The difference.)

Do you need them to complete the album? (No.)

This is the question that worries collectors most - and it shouldn't. You complete the album (980 stickers) entirely without any Extra Stickers. Because they sit outside the set, you don't need a single one for a "full album."

So:

• If your goal is a full album, don't give Extra Stickers a second thought - finish your album and enjoy it.
• If you love the hunt for something special, Extra Stickers are your challenge - entirely by choice, never an obligation.

(For finishing the album smartly, the same rule applies: trade your doubles first, buy only the ones you're missing, and leave packs as the last resort.)

How rare are they - and where to get them

Honest numbers: an Extra Sticker turns up on average once in about 100 packets. When one does, that packet holds 7 regular stickers + 1 Extra. A rare animal, then - which is exactly why it's prized.

Where you realistically get them:

• In packs - with some luck, but don't count on it: 1-in-100 odds are against you if you're buying purely hoping for an Extra.
• Guaranteed in larger collector's boxes. Some premium boxes include Extra Stickers guaranteed - if you really want them, that's a surer route than chasing packs.
• Individually, by trading or buying. If you're after one specific player or their gold version, the easiest way is one at a time - trade for it or buy it from other collectors.

Smart tip: don't buy a pile of packs just for the Extras. The maths (1 in 100) is brutal. If you're targeting a specific Extra, trading and buying the single are almost always cheaper and faster.

Are Extra Stickers worth anything?

Honestly: some are genuinely sought after - gold versions of the biggest names (Messi, Ronaldo, Yamal) fetch good prices because there are few of them and many want them. But most Extra Stickers aren't an "investment," and that's perfectly fine.

Collect them for the joy of the hunt and because they look great, not as an investment. Any sticker is worth exactly what someone will pay for it - you can see a few recent examples in the Recent sales section below. Don't buy anything expecting profit.

Recent sales: what Extra Stickers have gone for

The most honest measure of value is what stickers have actually sold for - not what someone is asking, but the price a sticker really changed hands for. Below are a few recent examples from sold (completed) eBay listings - for a feel, not a price list. Prices move fast, so treat this as a snapshot.

Lionel Messi (Extra)

Cristiano Ronaldo (Extra)

What do these numbers tell us? First, that the spread is wide - the same sticker can sell for two or even four times what another copy did (Messi's gold runs from about €60 to €160, Ronaldo's gold from as little as €45 up to €200). The reasons aren't a mystery: price depends on the sticker's condition (wear, centering, corners), on where and when it sold (auction vs fixed price, a quiet day vs mid-tournament hype), and on how badly the buyer wanted it right then. You can also see the rarity ladder at work: gold sells higher than silver for both players. So take any single price with a pinch of salt - look at several recent sales of the same tier in the same condition and aim for the middle of the range, not the top result. And, of course: this is a snapshot for a feel, not an invitation to buy for profit.

In short

• Extra Stickers = 20 special star-player stickers, each in 4 colours: purple → bronze → silver → gold (rarest).
• Not part of the album (980 stickers) - you finish it without them; they're a bonus chase.
• Rare: on average one per ~100 packets (a packet with one = 7 regular + 1 Extra).
• Where: guaranteed in larger collector's boxes, otherwise by trading or buying singles. Don't chase them with a pile of packs.
• Hunt them for fun, not as an investment.
