Luka Doncic cards: rookie guide, 2026 values, record sales and the Lakers era
Every key Luka Doncic rookie card with 2026 prices, the $4.7M record, his first Lakers cards, why Topps has no Doncic rookie and how to buy safely in Slovenia.

Luka Dončić's rookie cards are all from 2018-19 Panini: the hobby's reference card is Prizm #280, the budget entry is Hoops #268, and the prestige piece is National Treasures #127, a patch-and-autograph card numbered to 99. As of September 2026, a raw Prizm #280 runs about $55, a PSA 10 about $190, and the Silver Prizm in PSA 10 about $1,700. The record is not the $4.6 million sale everyone still Googles. In September 2025 a different Dončić rookie changed hands for $4.7 million.
This is a guide to Luka Doncic cards written from Europe, where Luka is a national hero rather than one star among thirty. It covers his rookie cards with current prices, the rarity ladder, the record sales, what happened to prices since the 2021 peak, his first Lakers cards, why Topps has no Dončić rookie, his true first card from Real Madrid, and how to buy one without getting burned. It does not list all 15,000 Dončić cards in the databases. Nobody needs that.

Why Dončić cards are a category of their own
Three reasons. He is the biggest athlete a country of two million has ever produced, a player Slovenian fans have followed from the Olimpija Ljubljana youth teams through Real Madrid and Dallas all the way to Los Angeles, so there is a loyal home market that never sells. He is a global superstar, so American, Chinese and European collectors set the price even when Europe is asleep. And his draft class is a collector's dream: Dončić, Trae Young, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jaren Jackson Jr. arrived in the same 2018-19 products, which keeps those boxes getting opened seven years later.
He made mainstream headlines in 2021, when a rookie card sold for $4.6 million. What most of those headlines never explained is which card that was, what a "Logoman" is, and what a Dončić card you can actually afford costs. Let's fix that.
Luka Dončić rookie cards: the ones that matter
A rookie card (RC) is a player's first officially licensed card from the season he enters the league. For Dončić that means the 2018-19 NBA season, and the cards carry the RC logo. His Real Madrid cards are pre-rookies, covered below, and Topps, the NBA licensee since October 2025, has no Dončić rookie at all. Every one of his RCs is a Panini card.
The table below lists the ones collectors actually chase. Prices are approximate September 2026 figures in US dollars, from sportscardspro.com, Card Ladder and PSA sales data. They change practically every day.
| Card (2018-19 Panini) | Number | Raw | PSA 10 | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hoops | #268 | $13-18 | $75-85 | A Dončić rookie suited to beginner collectors |
| Donruss Rated Rookie | #177 | about $25 | $115-125 | The classic Rated Rookie logo on a budget |
| Prizm (base) | #280 | about $55 | $190-200 | The hobby's reference rookie |
| Donruss Optic | #177 | about $36 | about $125 | The chrome version of Donruss |
| Select Concourse | #25 | about $26 | about $108 | Entry to the three-tier Select set |
| Prizm Silver | #280 | about $265 | about $1,700 | The most wanted "reachable" parallel |
| Optic Holo | #177 |
Prizm #280 is the card the whole hobby points to. PSA had graded almost 40,000 copies by September 2026 and just over 20,000 of them came back as 10s. It is not rare. It is the most liquid Dončić card there is, with PSA 10 copies selling several times a day. If you want one Dončić card every collector on earth recognises, this is it.
Prizm Silver is the same card with the rainbow refractor finish and the one on most serious want lists. About 2,400 PSA 10s exist, and the price sat between $1,400 and $2,000 over the last three months.
Hoops #268 is the Dončić rookie best suited to beginners. For the price of a lunch you own a genuine Dončić RC. Grading it makes no financial sense, more on that below.
The rarity ladder: from base card to 1/1
In 2018-19 Prizm alone, Dončić has 36 parallels, the same card in a different colour or finish, usually serial-numbered: "/99" means 99 copies exist, "1/1" means exactly one. Fewer copies, higher price. Here is the ladder with his cards on it:
| Print run | Dončić example |
|---|---|
| unnumbered | Hoops #268, Donruss #177, Prizm #280 and Prizm Silver #280 |
| /299 | Prizm Red, Select Concourse Light Blue |
| /199 | Prizm Blue, Hoops Silver |
| /99 | Prizm Blue Ice, National Treasures RPA #127, Immaculate RPA #124 |
| /49 | Prizm Orange, Optic Blue |
| /25 | Prizm Mojo, Select Tie-Dye, Contenders Cracked Ice auto |
| /10 | Prizm Gold, Optic Gold, National Treasures Gold |
| /5 | Prizm Black Gold, National Treasures Emerald |
| 1/1 | Prizm Black, National Treasures Logoman, Flawless Logoman |
| unnumbered short prints | Kaboom! (Crown Royale), Downtown, Revolution Galactic |

Two terms you will meet in the record sales:
- An RPA (rookie patch autograph) is a rookie card with a real piece of jersey and an on-card signature.
- A Logoman is an RPA whose patch is the NBA logo itself. Logomans are almost always 1/1, which is why they top every player's price list.
One more rarity story. The Prizm Black 1/1 #280, the only black Dončić Prizm rookie, has, as far as any public record shows, never been pulled. The collector who sold the National Treasures Logoman in 2021 posted a public $1.5 million bounty for it in February 2023. The Prizm Black 1/1 #280 may still be waiting in some unopened 2018-19 box.
The most expensive Luka Dončić cards: record sales

| 2018-19 National Treasures Logoman RPA 1/1 | raw (later BGS 9) | $4,600,000 | 28 Feb 2021, private sale |
| the same National Treasures Logoman 1/1 | BGS 9 / Auto 10 | $3,120,000 | 18 Nov 2022, PWCC auction |
| 2018-19 Prizm Gold /10 #280 | PSA 10 | $799,500 | 1 Feb 2021, Goldin auction |
| 2018-19 National Treasures RPA #127 /99 | PSA 10 / Auto 10 | $780,000 | 19 Dec 2021, PWCC auction |
| 2018-19 National Treasures RPA Emerald #127 /5 | BGS 9 | $504,000 | 17 Jun 2022, PWCC auction |
| 2024-25 Flawless Platinum dual Logoman LeBron + Luka 1/1 | raw | $420,000 | 21 Nov 2025, Fanatics Collect |
| 2023-24 Crown Royale Green Kaboom 1/1 | PSA 7 |
Three things the headlines got wrong. The famous $4.6 million was not an auction. It was a private sale between two collectors, the card was still ungraded at the time, and the seller had bought it for about $425,000 before the pandemic card boom. The same card then went to public auction in November 2022 and brought $3.12 million, at the time a record for any basketball card at auction. ESPN covered that sale here. And the record is no longer $4.6 million: in September 2025 the other Dončić rookie Logoman, the one from Flawless, sold privately for $4.7 million. As a private sale, that price has not been independently verified. According to the buyer, the card was graded PSA 7 with a 10 autograph after the sale.
What happened to prices: the 2021 peak and the 2026 reality
2021 was the peak of the entire card market, and most Dončić parallels have lost 60 to 88 percent since. Some examples:
- Select Tie-Dye /25 in PSA 10: $13,200 in December 2021, $5,000 in May 2024.
- Select Silver Concourse in PSA 10: $4,345 in March 2021, $522 in November 2023.
- Mosaic #68 in PSA 10: $1,600 in November 2020, $355 in August 2026.
- National Treasures RPA in BGS 9.5: $266,400 in April 2022, $93,940 in November 2025.
The trade to Los Angeles in February 2025 woke the market up. The Silver Prizm PSA 10 jumped from $1,000 to $1,900 overnight. Card Ladder's index of his cards, which tracks 732 of them, sat higher in September 2026 than before the trade but slightly negative over the last three months, down 1.8 percent. The reason is no secret: a hamstring injury in April 2026, after which the Lakers were swept by Oklahoma City without him. He still finished the season as the league's top scorer at 33.5 points a game and fourth in MVP voting.
The wider picture is more encouraging: the hobby is waking up again after two bad years. Card Ladder's CL50 index, which tracks 50 benchmark cards, fell 23 percent in 2022 and another 9 percent in 2023. By September 2025 it was up roughly 28 percent on the year, and Card Ladder's basketball index was up 29 percent. In 2025, 40 cards sold for $1 million or more, close to the record 43 of 2021. The momentum carried into 2026: eBay reported that sports card sales growth on its platform accelerated notably in the first quarter. Dončić cards are catching this wave more slowly, and most are still far below their 2021 prices.
What this means for you: a Dončić rookie costs far less today than five years ago, and nobody knows where the price goes tomorrow.
Dončić as a Laker: his first Lakers cards
The 2 February 2025 trade created a new category, the "first Lakers card". Here is what actually exists, because almost nobody checks.
- Panini Instant Lakers Debut (LD-LAL) came first, released around his 10 February 2025 debut with a print run of 14,914, one per order placed. A dual card with LeBron James ran 5,154 copies.
- The first pack-pulled cards of Luka in a Lakers uniform were in 2024-25 Prizm Monopoly (spring 2025), but only as case-purchase incentives. The base card in that set still shows him in Dallas.
- 2024-25 Select #56 Concourse is his first Lakers-designated card in a mainstream set. We checked the scan: the team label says Lakers and the back carries the Lakers logo, but the photo is still the white Dallas jersey with the number 77, with a vertical "Traded to Lakers on 2/2/25" stamp printed beside it. A small piece of history on cardboard.
- 2024-25 National Treasures (August 2025) still shows him as a Maverick. The photography was locked before the trade.
- 2024-25 Prizm Black Color Blast #4, one of the first true Lakers-uniform cards, sold for about $6,300 in PSA 10 in January 2026.

Why does this matter for your wallet? 2024-25 Prizm, 2024-25 Totally Certified and 2023-24 Phoenix show him as a Maverick, Select labels him a Laker, and the price difference between the two is smaller than you would guess. You are buying the story, not the jersey.
Topps or Panini: why there is no Luka Dončić Topps rookie card
Since 1 October 2025, Topps has held the NBA trading card licence. The first consequence is simple: Dončić's rookie cards stay Panini cards from 2018-19, and Topps cannot reissue them. A Topps Dončić rookie card does not exist and never will.
The second is less obvious, and worth understanding. Topps needs no personal contract with Dončić to print his cards. It licenses from the league and from the players' union, the NBPA, and it is the NBPA licence that covers player likenesses. Luka is in Topps sets because he plays in the league, not because he signed anything with Topps.
He was still missing from the first Topps sets: not in 2025-26 Topps Basketball (October 2025), Topps Chrome (December 2025), Sapphire, Midnight or the Holiday set. Topps has never explained why. You will often read that his Panini exclusive is the reason, but that deal covers autographs and memorabilia, not base cards. The proof came later, when Luka turned up in Finest, Hoops and Chrome Update without any trouble. Why he missed the first sets is still an open question, and we are not going to pretend we know.
What matters more to a collector: there is no signed Topps Dončić card. Panini has held his autograph and memorabilia exclusive since April 2021, and every sign says it still does. In 2025-26 Topps Chrome Update, a release with no shortage of signed cards, Luka appears in the base set and its parallels, but you will not find his autograph there. If you want a signed Dončić card from his NBA years, it will almost certainly be a Panini. The only known exception is older: the signed 2016-17 Upper Deck EuroLeague card from his Real Madrid days.
Where you do find him at Topps: Topps Now (card 5 from October 2025, print run 7,591), Topps Finest (February 2026, #81), Topps NBA Hoops (May 2026, #8), Topps Chrome Black (August 2026) and 2025-26 Topps Chrome Update #2 from August 2026, his first ever Topps Chrome card. If you want the "first Topps Luka", that is the one.
Before the NBA: his true first card
Dončić's first licensed card is not a Panini. It is the 2016-17 Upper Deck Turkish Airlines EuroLeague #23 in a Real Madrid uniform, released in June 2017 through Upper Deck's digital ePack platform. The base card was digital only. The physical version is the Rainbow parallel, found in every second pack. A Rainbow in PSA 10 sold for about $760 in August 2026, with 156 gem-mint copies graded. For many European collectors this card is the real beginning.
Two honest notes. We could not find any Slovenian-issued card or any card in the Slovenia national-team jersey in any database, so treat anyone selling one as "official" with suspicion. And Panini's first EuroLeague sticker album only arrived in 2024-25, with Luka as sticker #397 among the all-time legends, pictured as 2016-17 Real Madrid. A sticker is not a card, and we explain the difference between cards and stickers separately.
How to buy Luka Dončić cards from Europe
Singles. For a specific card, say a Prizm #280 in PSA 10, eBay is the most useful (including eBay.de for European sellers), with Fanatics Collect and Goldin for the expensive end. Buying from the US means customs duty and VAT on top, so compare a European seller first.
Sealed boxes. If the chase appeals more than one card, our shop carries Panini basketball blasters with Luka on the checklist: 2024-25 Prizm (#89, Dallas), 2024-25 Select in four formats (#56, #141, #265, #347, Lakers), 2024-25 Totally Certified (#121, Dallas) and 2023-24 Phoenix (#157, Dallas). Straight talk: a blaster holds 24 cards from a base set of 200 to 400, so a Dončić base card in every box is not guaranteed. It is possible, and that is the chase.
Grading. PSA grading pays when the gap between a raw card and a PSA 10 is bigger than the fee. For Prizm #280 it is clear: $55 against $190. For Hoops #268 it is not: $15 against $80, minus the fee, minus shipping from Europe.
Fakes. Dončić cards do get faked, but not the way you would expect. The most common trick is a fake BGS or PSA slab around a real card, so always check the cert number on the grader's website. On a Prizm, the "Prizm" wordmark must sit right next to the card number on the back, and the edges must not show a white paper core. Be extra careful with "Downtown" inserts, which are counterfeited outright. If the price is far below market, it is not necessarily a bargain. Treat it as a warning to be careful.
Honest question: are Luka Dončić cards an investment?
We are collectors, not a brokerage. Dončić cards make a great collection because the player on them is the league's top scorer, a national icon, and set to play in the NBA for years to come. They are not a guarantee of profit. The list of declines since 2021 above is the proof. Buy a Prizm #280 because you want it and you cannot go wrong. Buy it because you are counting on 2021 prices coming back, and know that they may not.
Frequently asked questions
What is Luka Doncic's rookie card? His rookie cards are all 2018-19 Panini: Prizm #280 is the reference, Hoops #268 the cheapest, Donruss #177 and Optic #177 the classics, National Treasures #127 the prestige piece. His Real Madrid cards and the 2025-26 Topps cards are not rookie cards.
How much is a Luka Doncic rookie card worth? As of September 2026, from about $15 for a raw Hoops to about $190 for a Prizm #280 in PSA 10 and about $1,700 for a Silver Prizm in PSA 10. Numbered parallels and autographs run into the thousands, Logomans into the millions. Prices change practically every day.
What is the most expensive Luka Doncic card ever sold? The 2018-19 Panini Flawless Logoman Autograph 1/1, sold privately on 26 September 2025 for $4.7 million (as reported by the buyer). Before that, the National Treasures Logoman 1/1 held the record at $4.6 million (February 2021) and brought $3.12 million at public auction in November 2022.
What is Luka Doncic's first Lakers card? The Panini Instant Lakers Debut from February 2025, print run 14,914. In mainstream sets, 2024-25 Select #56 is the first to label him a Laker, though the photo is still the Dallas jersey with a "Traded to Lakers" stamp. True Lakers-uniform cards include 2024-25 Prizm Black and 2025-26 Topps Chrome Update #2.
Does Luka Doncic have a Topps rookie card? No. Rookie cards belong to his first season, when Panini held the licence. His first Topps card is a Topps Now from October 2025 and his first Topps Chrome is 2025-26 Topps Chrome Update #2 from August 2026. He is not in 2025-26 Topps Basketball or Topps Chrome.
Is a Luka Doncic card a good investment? We do not give investment advice, and the price history says why: most of his parallels are down 60 to 88 percent from the 2021 peak, even though the Lakers trade lifted prices in 2025. Buy the card you want to own. Any gain is a bonus, not a plan.
Where to start
